No. 15 Auburn (296-290--586) finished the first 36-holes of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in fourth place at the par-71, 7,412-yard University of Texas Golf Club in Austin on Monday.

Jay Moseley (74-68--142) led the Tigers, finishing the day in a four-way tie for second. Gordon Strother (72-75--147) is tied for 20th, Glenn Northcutt (75-73--148) is tied for 26th, Patton Kizzire (75-74--149) is tied for 28th and Steven Groover (82-75--157) tied for 63rd.

"We looked like we were about to string something special together but we had a few setbacks," said head coach Mike Griffin. "It was a shotgun start and we were starting and finishing on a tough set of holes. I know everyone would like to get back out there and take another crack at some shots.

"We had a good showing today. It's just so easy to make a bogie out here. I'm real proud of the way our kids kept fighting and coming back all day. Thirty-six holes is a long walk on a hot day like this."

No. 6 Oklahoma State (291-286--577) is in the lead followed by No. 14 UNLV (295-285--580), tournament host Texas (291-290--581), Auburn, No. 20 UCF (294-293--587), No. 1 Alabama (301-287--588), Texas Tech (293-296--588), Pepperdine (296-297--593), No. 19 Louisville (295-301--596), BYU (290-307--597), TCU (294-310--604), Tulsa (298-308--606), New Mexico (306-304--610), Fresno State (307-304--611) and San Diego (306-307--313).

"This is a tough course," said Moseley. "It's pretty demanding off the tees. The hole locations they had for us gave us a few problems, but we had a good day overall."

Texas' Charlie Holland (68-73--141) finished the first two rounds in sole possession of first place. Moseley is tied for second with Pepperdine's Andrew Widmer (70-72--142) and UNLV's Seung-su Han (73-69--142) and Matt Kinsinger (70-72--142).

The final round of the 2-day, 54-hole event is set to begin Tuesday morning. The Tigers tee off on from front nine with UCF and Alabama at 8:45 am CST.
