DUNKIRK, France - Former Auburn swimmer Fred Bousquet kicked off his week at the French Olympic Trials Monday as he swam the anchor leg on the winning 400m freestyle relay team.

Bousquet, the first swimmer ever to break 19 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, is competing for his third appearance on the French Olympic Team. He competed for his home country at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Bousquet anchored the team that included Nabil Kebbab, Fabien Gilot and Romain Caffet, clocking a time of 3:14.81. The time set a new meet record and neared the French record of 3:14.68.

Bousquet is slated to compete in three individual events this week at the Olympic Trials. He enters the meet as the top contender in the 100m butterfly with a time of 52.29 and is the third seed in the 50m freestyle with a time of 21.90. His final event is the 100m free where he is ranked sixth with a time of 49.38.
