AUBURN, Ala. - Steven Register, who played baseball at Auburn from 2002-04 and was a third-round pick in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft, became the latest Auburn baseball alum to make it to the big leagues as the right-handed pitcher made his debut on Monday night for the Colorado Rockies.

Called into the game in the sixth, Register whiffed the only hitter he faced in a 9-4 loss to the Washington Nationals.

Prior to the game, Register told MLB.com reporter Jeff Birnbaum, ""I just want to come in, and if I get a chance to get in there [Monday] or whenever, just throw like I know I can, and hopefully everything will work out."

Register, 25, was a NCBWA All-America selection in 2003, leading the nation in saves with 16 while sporting a 2.94 ERA in 52.0 innings. In three years with Auburn, he compiled a 15-3 mark with a 3.42 ERA, saving 25 games. He also racked up 139 strikeouts in 129.0 innings, making 71 appearances during his stay at Auburn.

Register was promoted from Triple-A Colorado Springs where he went 5-2 with 16 saves and a 3.28 ERA in 48 games for the Sky Sox.

Register became the third from Auburn baseball player to make his Major League debut this season, joining Justin Christian (New York Yankees) and Tug Hulett (Seattle Mariners).
