AUBURN - The Auburn football team wrapped up a busy week of practice with an hour-and-a-half workout in shells Sunday afternoon at the practice fields behind the Athletics Complex. It marked the 16th-straight day of practice for the Tigers, who will finally get a much-needed day off on Monday when classes begin at Auburn.

The Tigers opened with special teams work and spent much of the workout in individual and group drills before coming together as a team to conclude practice. A hot and muggy day turned cooler as the practice progressed as storms entered the area, but fortunately the rain held off and the team was able to finish the practice without a hitch.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville said it was a good practice that gave the team an opportunity to correct miscues made during Saturday's scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

"I thought we got a lot of work done," said Tuberville. "We did a lot of team stuff full speed except for tackling. I thought we got better. We came back in the right frame of mind. Guys did a good job of working on their mistakes that they made and that's really the last time we'll go against each other that much in practice for a while."

Tuberville noted that after watching film of the scrimmage, the coaches were correct in their initial assessment that the team looked sluggish, which was to be expected given the busy first two weeks of practice with no days off.

"We didn't perform real well in most of our scrimmage yesterday," said Tuberville. "We kind of ran out of gas and lost our concentration. We made a lot of mental mistakes. The effort looked like it tried to be good. We looked like we were running with leg weights on, but there were some good things. We made some plays and I thought defensively we stepped up about the middle of practice. We played well on defense and then we just kind of lost our concentration."

After taking Monday off, the Tigers will return to the practice fields Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. CT at the Athletics Complex.

Auburn's season opener is August 30 when the Tigers host Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Single-game tickets are available for the Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, Arkansas and Tennessee-Martin home games. To purchase tickets visit www.auburntigers.com or call 800-AUB-1957.
