BIRMINGHAM - For her play in last Friday's season opener, Auburn senior DeWanna Bonner was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Bonner is the first player to receive the honor this season.

The Fairfield, Ala., native led the Tigers to a 91-53 win at Alabama A&M, putting up 25 points, eight rebounds and six steals in the season-opener. The six steals tie Bonner's career best and her 11 field goals made in the game set a new career mark.

Bonner is the first Auburn player to receive the honor since Whitney Boddie earned it on Nov. 25, 2007. It is just the second time in Bonner's career to receive the weekly award with the first coming on Jan. 1, 2007.

Following Monday night's game against Temple, the No. 20/21 Tigers hit the road for a 6 p.m. CT, Wednesday game at Georgia Southern.
