![]() Former Auburn alumnus and football legend Vincent "Bo" Jackson recently spoke to more than 2,800 graduates at our commencement ceremonies. His message was simple but important: "step outside your comfort zone." After winning the 1985 Heisman Trophy, Bo took athletic success to a new level by earning all-star recognition in two professional sports -- football and baseball. At the conclusion of his professional career, Bo went on to make a name for himself as an entrepreneur. Along the way, he was honored for his devotion to helping children and youth, joining retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa as recipients of Auburn's International Quality of Life Award. Bo didn't talk sports to the graduating class. Instead, he talked from the heart about what Auburn means to him and how his Auburn education helped him to step out of his own comfort zone to achieve success in business and in life. Bo's story is a good example of the Auburn spirit. It's embodied in our commitment to motivating students to reach their fullest potential and serving our communities, state and nation through innovation, discovery and outreach.
